History Kassik Milling Co. was
started in 1923 by Albert Kassik Sr. The main income
of the business when it first started was the manufacturing of flour.
In 1926 the feed
mill was added to accompany the demand of livestock producers in the
area. Albert
Kassik Sr. had three sons Albert Jr., Leonard, and Fred. After
World War II the
three sons came home and entered the business with there father.
Albert Jr., Leonard,
and Fred decided to add another production area to Kassik Milling Co.,
which was
the production of sun cured alfalfa pellets in 1950. Over the
years the feed mill
business kept growing with the increased popularity of raising swine.
Kassik Milling
Co. also got into the business of being an implement dealer, where they
sold
New Holland machinery and David Brown tractors. In 1976 Albert Jr.
and Fred
decided to sell their share of the business to there brother Leonard.
Leonard had
two sons, Mike and Dean who entered into the business with him in 1978.
The
production of sun cured alfalfa pellets came to a halt in 1997 when the
EPA shut
down the operation of alfalfa pellets stating that they were producing
too much dust.
In 2002 Kassik Milling Co. was hit hard with the death of Leonard.
Mike and Dean
Then took over complete ownership of the business, which they still own.
The main
income of the mill now is grain marketing and providing feed to the
local livestock
producers.
